Diagnosed with Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma? Webster Vicknair MacLeod Can Help.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has attributed 481 cases of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and 12 deaths to Allergan breast implants. As a result of its analysis, the FDA asked Allergan to recall its BIOCELL textured breast implants, removing them from the global market.

Although the FDA and Allergan’s actions may help people avoid BIA-ALCL in the future, it does little for the people who already received defective Allergan implants and cancer diagnoses.

At Webster Vicknair MacLeod, we are fighting for those people – people like you. If you or a loved one was diagnosed with breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma after receiving Allergan breast implants, we can help.

How Do Allergan Implants Cause Cancer?

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a cancer of the immune system – not breast cancer. It develops in the scar tissue and fluid near Allergan implants and causes swelling and pain.

BIA-ALCL can occur long after the surgical incision has healed, and the textured surface of Allergan implants can increase the risk of the disease.

More than a dozen women who have been diagnosed with BIA-ALCL after receiving Allergan implants have filed suit against the company, alleging the defective implants caused their cancer – and that Allergan failed to adequately warn them of the risk.

What Should I Do If I Have Allergan Implants?

If you have Allergan implants, keep an eye out for the symptoms of BIA-ALCL, which include persistent swelling and pain around the breast implant and lumps in the breast. The FDA is not recommending the removal of the implants unless you have symptoms, but you should talk to your health care provider if you have any questions or concerns. If you develop symptoms or are diagnosed with BIA-ALCL, seek treatment right away. You may need surgery to remove the implant and diseased tissue, as well as radiation and chemotherapy if your cancer has spread. Keep in mind that treatment for BIA-ALCL is expensive, and if Allergan implants are responsible for your cancer, you should not have to face these medical expenses alone. You may also be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, missed wages, and other losses.
